ASF Tree Grilles & Tree Guards

Tree Grilles are also known as tree grates or tree grids and are the single most practical way of protecting tree roots whilst allowing rain water to collect where it is needed.

Whilst Tree Grilles are primarily a utility product designed with the health of the tree in mind, they also make an excellent design feature for urban and rural schemes alike.

Fabricated Tree Grilles are available in any size to suit any scheme and can be finished in a wide range of polished finishes.

Alongside ASF's range of fabricated grilles (the ASF 3000 series), ASF can fabricate or laser cut completely bespoke grilles if required.

ASF Stainless Steel Tree Grilles are manufactured in marine grade stainless steel and made to the highest standards, with quality and durability a major consideration. With fully welded grille sections (with hidden welds) and fastened to the support frames with anti tamper fixings they look great whilst managing to be extremely practical.

Steel Tree Grilles

Steel Tree Grilles are supplied galvanised and can be either supplied galvanised to patina with time, or can be polyester powder coated to suit surrounding colour schemes.

Supplied with grille sections fully welded, and fastened to support frames with security fixings, Steel Tree Grilles are not only stylish but are also highly vandal resistant.

ASF has a range of fabricated Steel Tree Grilles as well as the facility to bespoke manufacture grilles to just about any design, either by fabricated or laser cut.

They are robust, strong and hardwearing and are a great lower cost alternative to stainless steel grilles, as well as being fantastic products in their own right.

Cast Iron Tree Grilles

The stalwart of Tree Protection, Cast Iron Tree Grilles form the mainstay of many planting schemes.

Available in a wide variety of styles and cast in ASF's own Foundry at the factory site in Brighouse, ASF Cast Iron Tree Grilles offer extremely high quality, UK manufactured products that are tough, durable, extremely long lasting and look great.

ASF Cast Iron Tree Grilles are 100% recycled and 100% recyclable, and due to cast iron's highly rust resistant nature should, in normal use, last in excess of 100 years.

ASF Tree Guards

ASF manufactures a large range of Tree Guards that are available in both steel and stainless steel.

Tree Guards offer further protection to trees - both young and mature, by protecting them from grazing animals, vandalism, traffic impact and tree climbing.

Tree Guards can be manufactured to be either ground fixing via a set of ground spikes or by being bolt fixed directly into ASF support frames.

As well as being extremely practical, Tree Guards can be very decorative and stylish to complement the tree they protect and the surrounding architecture or environment.

As well as the standard range of Tree Guards, ASF's design and manufacturing capability means that bespoke and one off Tree Guards can also be made.

Alternative tree protection is also available and ASF can manufacture tree seats, tree protection bars and protection barriers that double up as seating perches, in fact, anything that is required for a particular site.

ASF can also combine new designs of guards with traditional grille designs if necessary.

ASF Tree Grilles in conjunction with direct irrigation systems

All ASF Tree Grilles can be manufactured to work alongside direct irrigation systems. These irrigation products are usually a series of hoses and water outlets buried around tree roots, allowing the trees to be watered directly in areas where it is difficult to achieve the required levels of natural rainwater, or at times when rainfall is low. These systems are particularly useful for young and developing trees. ASF can manufacture Tree Grilles to house these products as well as supplying them with the grilles if necessary, thus ensuring proper irrigation at all times.

Why choose ASF Tree Grilles

For Protection - ASF Tree Grilles protect the roots of both young and mature trees. Foot traffic especially, damages exposed roots. Tree Grilles act as a direct barrier defending the roots against this.

To Avoid Soil Compaction - Tree Grilles prevent soil compaction. Surveys have shown that around 40% of planted areas suffer adverse effects from soil compaction - this occurs from pedestrian and vehicular traffic passing over wet or damp ground which literally seals the surface, stopping the natural irrigation from rainwater. ASF Tree Grilles prevent this by providing a suspended surface which allows rain water to pass through but keeping direct contact with the soil at bay.

To Protect Against Vandalism - Trees are defenceless and are an easy target for vandalism. Exposed roots and tree bark are the main areas that suffer from this - whether it is from mindless damage or lovers carving their names into trees, the damage caused will often hamper the tree's development and in extreme cases the tree can die. ASF Tree Grilles, especially when combined with ASF Tree Guards, help protect the trees against this damage.

For Irrigation - Perhaps the key risk to tree health is that of trees not getting enough water. ASF Tree Grilles create a stable environment where the tree can receive the maximum available water from rainfall. Tree Grilles protect against soil compaction in soft ground areas, and direct the rain water straight to the foot of the tree in paved areas and urban schemes.
